Minnesota Gov pleas to Trump to remove federal agents in Minneapolis-St
Speaking at a press conference, the governor framed the incident as a defining moment for the country, stressing that political affiliation should not matter in the face of what occurred. He stated: "I don't care if you are conservative and you are flying a Donald Trump flag, you're a Libertarian 'don't tread on me,' you're a Democratic Socialist of America, this is an inflection point, America."
The governor argued that available video footage does not support official claims that Pretti attacked federal officers. He said the recordings indicate that the use of lethal force was unwarranted and contradicted public statements made by senior federal officials.
Describing Pretti’s background, the governor emphasized that he was "beloved by his family" and portrayed him as a respected and law-abiding member of society. He noted that Pretti was an accomplished intensive care nurse, experienced in assisting military veterans, widely valued in his community, had no criminal history, and legally owned firearms.
Multiple videos recorded by bystanders appear to present a version of events that differs from the federal account. In the footage, Pretti is seen stepping in to help a female protester after she was shoved to the ground by an immigration agent. Shortly thereafter, a federal officer is shown deploying pepper spray against Pretti, followed by agents forcing him to the ground. One agent is seen removing a legally owned handgun from him, after which another officer fires multiple shots.
Referring to the widely circulated footage viewed across the world, the governor underscored the clarity of what was captured on camera, saying: "And you know what you saw."
He reiterated his call for federal forces to be withdrawn, arguing that their continued presence risks further escalation and loss of life.
